Temperature at the Changsha train station 46.8ºC

Still, it's better than the last few days as it's not as humid.

46.8!

Shit, we just hit the third day in a row of +30º yesterday. I finally gave up and turned on the AC last night and slept through nicely

Today: 27, hazy, and only 52% humidity

I got a outdoor BBQ party planned for 80 people and weather report say 50% chance or rain. There's no other place we can go and no shelters.

Fingers crossed. It's cloudy right now, but not rainy. I got 2 more hours till the party starts. Nervous!

Guangzhou is finally into the hot weather, although a week or two later than I previously recall. Nowhere near Changsha hot. That's hot!

I heard from my Dad in Calgary in this morning. He's quite liking it there at the moment. As a retired sailor, he's missed living near the water.

Yah, I read about the floods going on, even up in the mountains too, in Banff and Canmore.

The Bow River must be raging! Wonder what it looks like at the Seebe dam and the cliffs just below?

Calgary should have a flood every year; the day after the Stampede is over

aaaaaaaaaa  what a smell, even for cattle country!

Funny, in one class we're doing a more than normal lesson on weather. It's not just the regular words. One that I introduced is Chanook. (sp?) The kids couldn't believe that Calgary and those parts of Alberta would get snow in the summer

Chinook = warm wind or Chinese girlfriend.
The Koreans once gave me five minutes notice - I didn't know what to do with the extra time.

The Trans-Can westbound bridge is flooded out between Canmore and Banff.

Cat rescue.

In 1997 the ex and I had to go to Winnipeg in the summer. A few months prior, they had another flood. The area is prone to them about every 40-50 years. The locals told me that a lot of the water had subsided and yet, I stood amazed at the sheer volume of it. I was shown a bridge that was just a few feet above the water line. They said at the height of the flooding the bridge was submerged. Usually, ships pass beneath it.

The difference between Cagary and Winnipeg's situation is that the former rarely experience these events. It more like they weren't ready. Winnipeg has long time ago installed anti-flooding measures.

There are some similarities to New Orleans; different cause, but same effect

The Trans-Can got flooded out and closed just west of Banff in the summer of '99 during a rainstorm and mine was one of the last couple of cars to make it back to town. Couldn't drive west of Banff for something like 4 days. There was a lot of rain that summer.

Not much flooding here in Wisconsin, but a constant torrent of rain for the last month including today and scheduled through Thursday.  Got home and my grass was, literally, up to my hips, (no, I was walking upright), and in some portions up to my shoulders.  It's usually green here, but THIS is ridiculous.
