Chinese Reading
« on: February 21, 2009, 08:58:14 PM »
My wife picked up a few Hanyufeng (Chinese Breeze) reading books (easy level for me). I got through the first one and think these are really helpful for improving my character reading skills. I figured I'd check out Amazon to see if I could order more at some point when I move to the states, but no such luck. Also checked the publisher's site and it has almost nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions for ordering these online? As a last resort, I may ask my mother-in-law to send some in the future.

I see what you mean about their website. It's a little locked up.
http://www.hanyufeng.com/ Since put out by Peking University Press you'd think a bit easier to navigate but this series isn't.

It's used by at least one instructory at UC-Davis http://chinese.ucdavis.edu/faculty/Chu
so you may find them in a local or regional college library near your landing zone. I may have found four copies here at UNC-CH, but I'll have to drop by library on way home to be sure.
I thought they'd be available at YesAsia www.yesasia.com but I couldn't get them to come up.
However, you can order them from Cheng and Tsui in Boston.

They run about $5/copy. You might be able to download as PDFs as well as get hard copy. I didn't check for that.

Cheng and Tsui are the distributors of Integrated Chinese that several of us have used.

China Sprout seems to be based out of New York, and they also have them:

Only 6 level one and 2 level two books currently available, as far as i know.

Thanks for the detective work guys. As long as someone has a few of them out there, I'll be able to keep up my studies when I move--I'm determined not to half-ass a language for once.
