Yeah, these new mirrorless cameras are really changing the market. It seems that many professionals are big fans of them as second cameras or just carry around cameras because of the size and image quality combination. The output is just as good as low to middle of the road DSLRs but they don't have all the features.

I can carry my camera with a lens attached and 2 more lenses in a bag the size of a fanny pack and not notice the weight. Just the camera and one lens is not really pants pocketable but certainly jacket pocketable. The camera I have is 16 MP good enough to make posters. I've printed a few 8x10s and they look great.

I suppose you have to have some sort of eye to take a photo but I'm a complete noob at this and I'm able to control the camera and get better results than I ever expected. Some you more experienced shooters would do well to check them out.

Sony NEX 5N.

I also have Sony 50mm f/1.8 prime lens that I took the portraits with in the Students thread and a Sony SEL 18-55 zoom kit (came with the camera) lens.

These things can use old manual lenses as well so when I head back to Canada, I'm grabbing my father's old Nikon film camera lenses. The size of those on my little NEX is going to look hilarious but it should be fun and a way to bring the old man to China more than a decade after he passed.

I am going to Oklahoma City next month for the daughter's wedding. I am definitely buying one of those cameras to bring back.

Sony just announced the updated versions to the NEX 5n that will probably be available in OKC by the time you get there. They are the NEX 5r and NEX 6. They look great but if the price is good for the NEX 5n, you wouldn't be going wrong. I'm in no way upset that I didn't wait.

If you are mainly interested in action shooting like sports, pets, kids then you might want to look at something different. It's not that the NEX series is bad at this, it just isn't it's strength. For me I like portraits, landscapes and street shooting which the NEX is great at. For street shooting it's unobtrusive and nowhere near as intimidation as pointing a big DSLR at someone.
