I've already stated that I will no longer reply to Pete's posts. As I said, he was booted off one of my websites (something which he hasn't denied because we both know it's true). However, I would like to respond to a few of you who have made comments. Have you looked at my website? Since this thread is being allowed to continue, I don't see why I shouldn't be able to post the link to it here: http://www.teachabroadchina.com (The China Teaching Web). Quote from Like Mr. Benn: At the root of this; a dislike of people being dishonest and phony, is a valid opinion to hold.
The only 'phony' thing I did was use a fake name until this guy threatened to 'out' me. I find it funny that on a forum like this, where MOST of the members out don't use their real names that I am being accused of dishonesty! Nathan I wasn't talking about you. Originally this thread was more generally about us expats pretending to be other than we are; something that for all my supposed like of honesty, I'm probably a bit guilty of myself. Now it all seesm to have become directed at you, but I don't think it started off like that. Frankly i don't really have an opinion about what you did, because I don't know anything really. I just skim over the details of your alledged crimes. My interest in this topic, such as it is, is based around the philisophical issues, and the delicious personal malice, which is, I'm somewhat ashamed to say, fun reading. Pumped I actually feel very similarly to you about the whole issue of honesty, but doesn't it make living in China a bit tricky, with the 'giving honey' and allowing people to keep face. I find it entirely possible to feel morally superior to everyone else without actually letting their bhaviour get to me. It strikes me to paraphrase (I think) Carrie fisher, that at the moment you are drinking lots of poison and waiting for Nathan to die.

I'd like to point out that no one thought my original post was inflammatory or inappropriate until Nathan showed up with stories of "exposure and humiliation". Several welcomed me to the forum and thanked me for a nice first post. I think it was Raoul who said my post was worth waiting for. Maybe Nathan wrote those threats himself to destroy the thread. I have no idea. If my points about FTs and unethical behavior are worthless and meritless, then where is all this "exposure and humiliation" supposed to be coming from? If I am full of shit and making a mountain out of a mole hill, which seems to be the consensus, where's the harm? I haven't made up any false charges or complaints. From the very first post, I have simply been discussing my take on what is public information. How can simply discussing my take on what is openly written on someone else's website be considered "exposure and humiliation"? If Nathan is convinced that he has acted in an appropriate and ethical manner in developing his website and has done nothing wrong then there can be no exposure or humiliation. If I'm all wet, then anyone reading this thread should have enough common sense to know that I'm writing nonsense just like they should know not to believe that a personal blog is really a China Teaching Federation, Teaching China Alliance, or whatever. If forum members are not allowed to write negative commentary about common FT behaviors or China EFL websites then that should be added to the forum rules. I specifically wrote Raoul and asked him if I was breaking the forum rules and he said no, I wasn't. All he asked was that I be civil and I think I have been. Pete

Having high moral standards is admirable. Demanding that others follow your standards of morality is not. Attacking the morality of websites in general is one thing but attacking an individual who is following the standards (as poor as they may be) is a low blow. Regarding the moonlighting contract work, you have me thinking that maybe I am selling myself short. I will look into this more carefully, thanks.
You have 10 years experience teaching in China right? Salary at your institution may work out less than 100/hr but that may include, Lodging, visa, holidays etc. For hourly wages 150/hr is way too low for you. Anyway, welcome to The Saloon. I hope you stick around. 10 years in-country and complaining about foreigners lying is interesting in China. By the way, I'm sure your wife's boyfriend tells her how beautiful she looks in those shoes.

This is clearly not a simple case of one person thinks another is acting unethically and therefore must warn the world. There might be an auto mechanic shop near my house that I believe cheats and overcharges, but I'm not on the Internet telling people about it. There is some ego damage here. Pumped, it appears that Nathan made you feel bad somehow. When we expose the raw nerve of someone's ego, beware. That's how the whole Chinese face-women-temper tantrum thing works. As we grow up, we usually learn to suppress those impulses, but somehow a lot Chinese people missed that stage. And so, apparently, did Pumped.

Why in the world not?? Don't assume everyone in the world is just like you. I was recently charged $4.95 for an ebook on Kobo.com that they didn't have. I asked twice for either a refund or the book, once by e-mail and once by a long-distance telephone call. After a month, I filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office and wrote a thorough warning about this company on the internet. Pete

Did the attorney general get you that money back?? Dud your comment online destroy the company? Thing is, Pumped, there are plenty of sites online that lie, a lot them deal with EFL jobs in China. However, what exactly is the point of this whole discussion?? You are in another, much better forum now. The person whose web-site you dislike does not, as he has himself stated, even care to enter an argument with you, so why bother with it. Couldn't we go back to trash-talking laowai who brag about their money and job, as we under-paid educators, who have long since lost our soul in a cloud of chalk dust, hate them so very much, apparently...
