If they're hot, why not just take the friggin' thing off?

In the high heat of summer, you did used to see blokes here just strolling about in their Y-fronts (often paired with patent leather shoes, socks + optional fag packet tucked into the elastic of the Ys).

that's awesomeness of Lebowski-esque proportions

What are y-fronts?
Yeah, that's British for briefs, jockeys, tighty-whiteys...but picture (or don't) the old, frayed and possibly stained variety, not the type sported by male underwear models.

That could cause more hysterical blindness than 450 lb. German in a lycra 'bananna hammock' thong on Patong Beach in Phuket.

Do not Google image search 'banana hammock'.

... I don't understand Chinese males' need to pull their T-shirt up to their armpits and walk/sit around. I tried it and it's uncomfortable. If they're hot, why not just take the friggin' thing off? (If you go to Korea don't try this - it's guaranteed to get 'Mr. Kim' upset). th_ah
My guess is that it's culturally more acceptable to pull it up than to take it off. I know that there are a ton of guy who are walking around with their bare upper bodies but maybe that's seen as a working class / redneck thing or something? I really don't know, gotta ask a Chinese person.
What I do know that where I live, it's not really acceptable for women to wear string tops/ show your shoulders. So they have all those mini token cardigans that are semi-transparent and basically do nothing else than cover your shoulders. Even I bought one or two of these so that I could wear my string tops to school.

I've noticed that not only will men roll up their shirt, they also roll up their pants past their knees.

I guess there is no accounting for taste.

"No accounting for taste" and yet one of the things I like best about this country, That if you want to walk backwards in leather shoes with white socks and one pant leg rolled up, you can without worrying about what is supposed to be cool. Take a stroll in your PJs, wear a party dress to class, roll up your shirt to cool off.

Good for them.
