Dalian, April 30: oh, did spring arrive today or what?!?!
OK, it's been a pretty reasonable, if not very encouraging spring so far, but what started today as another cool, foggy, damp day turned into a gorgeous warm sunny blue-skied May 1st. A day early, at that. And this was the day Mrs Late and I met with another couple and agreed to go for a long hike and climb a mountain. Purrrrrrrr-fect!

Isidnar, I hope you got out today.

Alas no. I was stuck in Ying Fu most of the day - Saturday schedule. But I'm definitely going to get out tomorrow.

Did you hike Daheishan?

Well, I'm off to Transformers for a beer or two after I finish eating. Cheers.  th_ag

Daheishan? nope. We started out with the intention of climbing Anzishan, because there's a buddhist temple there. It's located near Xiajiahezi, on the north road to Lushun. I used to teach at a college near there, but never got more than half way up before it was time to turn around and go home. My friend however, has been there before, to visit the temple. So we and our wives meet, buy some fast food and other provisions (beer and wine), and grab a taxi. Driver doesn't know it (few people do), but friend's wife says she does and gives driver directions. No one listens to me when I mention that we're going the wrong way. We get lost, but end up at another lovely mountain valley (well, this is a Dalian mountain valley) somewhere near Daheishi. Gold Dragon Valley, I think its called. Still a great day out. Later in the afternoon, we end up visiting my friend's wife's second aunt somewhere quite near (ahh, that's why she gave the driver directions) and having a nice time there. Good day out, wherever we were.

We had a few 'spring' days here in Dongguan, but now it's officially 'summer'. I know this because I was issued the AC remote control along with the microphone and computer key for the classroom this afternoon.

Thanks to the general hullaballoo and spiffing up for the just-passed 20th anniversary celebration at the uni where I work, there are now air conditioners in the classrooms - and today I am very thankful that they are there and working.

Here in 'Dirt Town' in the middle of BF nowhere - Xinzheng, Henan - the weather changed from winter to summer almost literally overnight. It was snowing one morning, and the next afternoon it hit 24 degrees C. It's been sunny and warm ever since. Everything turned green and blossomed overnight; and, the depressing, lead-grey, constantly 'foggy' sky turned blue and sunny.

I spent the last six years in Korea and spring there is short (but the transition from winter is gradual). I know it's not really summer here yet... and it's going to get stinkin' HOT... but, the point is the change from winter was sudden and dramatic.

Is it the same where you are? Is this usual?

Yes.. all these things happened to the weather is due to people activity on the earth. people harm the nature. Ecological disaster occur. Summer is already not summer. winter is not winter... The situation happens all around the world.  weird.... People must stop poison the land .........

It seems spring lasts a month here - turned on my aircons to cool the apartment on May 5 as the temps reached 30 degrees in the afternoons. Back at the beginning of April, I was using them to heat the apartment as it was below 0.

30ºC is Spring.

When it's over 40º and they are reporting it at 38º, that's summer.
