Another of my favorites is when waiting for the elevator and someone is standing so close to the door their nose is touching it, I will ask in my broken chinese why people do that? Are chinese elevators different than western ones? will they disappear if you dont stand as close to it as possible and try to get on even if people are trying to get off? Usually the dumb foreinger routine guilts them into standing back and hopefully remember for next time. I have learned to be patient though cause where I live they didnt have elevators 10 years ago, for many this technology is as mysterious as the magician cutting someone in half. You wouldnt get angry at someone for not understanding that trick now would you? th_bh

I used to comlain about the things people here did but then I figured I would be more proactive but in an entertaining way.
I walk my dog daily and bring with me enough paper to pick up her droppings.People often notice this and tell me how good I am like it is some crazy notion, i have taken to giving out paper to other dog walkers when their dog has defecated. I just say to them i am sure they would want to throw out their dogs droppings and walk away. Funny enough every time i have done it the person has picked it up.
It used to drive e crazy on an elevator and have to listen to someone yelling on their phone or on the bus. Now if it happens I take my phone out and yel even louder than the offender till they hang up, then i just put my phone away. lickass
Instead of getting angry or complaining about things I figure i might as well try to change my little art of the universe I live in.

Jebus. If there was a Chinese guy in my neighbourhood back in Ireland acting like this, I think I'd find him pretty annoying.

'No, silly Irish man, you don't do it like that, you do it like this, LIKE THIS SEE?'

I doubt the general reaction would be along the lines of 'Hmmm. What an eccentric man, but lets humour him for the sake of not causing a scene or provoking an unnexpected and possibly violent response from him.'

The most likely response would probably include the title of this thread, and a few rude words thrown in to boot.

The usual response is i do not have to listen to a douchebag yelling on an elevator or step in dog crap,2 things that make me happy.

I often wonder if many Asian folk have a hearing problem. Yesterday I walked behind an Asian lady speaking yelling on her mobile as she walked down the main street of Brisbane. Naturally I pass lots of folk talking on mobiles, but one of the things I have observed is this need, for Asian folk, to yell. On my return from the movies, I went into the "den of iniquity" (Casino). Two older Asian guys were sitting behind my machine speaking talking very loudly in their own language. One guy then got on a poker machine while the other guy proceeded to issue instructions from back in the chair. He also kept jumping out of the chair and hanging over another player, to point things out to his friend.  th_bi This was REALLY annoying, so I made it into a joke with the other ladies playing beside me. I pretended that Mr really loud voice was having sex with me and speaking to me during the process. th_ah th_u The ladies were all sniggering quietly. th_bf  Someone said, "I hope he doesn't speak English" and I said if he doesn't like it, he can learn to shut up or HE CAN GO HOME! th_ag th_ah

Yet another reason I love Granny Mae. th_ak

Seriously, I do think that you may be right about hearing issues.  I ask people here what certain sounds are (ones that I'm reasonably sure aren't just in my head th_ah), and they often can't hear them.  I think it's the giant speakers blasting music in front of the phone stores that's damaged a lot of Chinese people's eardrums.

One of my students told me that chinese people's throats are different then westerners, and it can't "self-clean" as well as ours can so that is why they spit so much.

So maybe their ears are a little bit more clogged as well. We need a "eyes, ears, throat" doctor here to settle this debate!  th_ah

They are... from all the dust in the air... and so are their noses... which leads to something else that's not very pleasent to watch.
