Finding new ways to conquer the world

« on: April 19, 2012, 07:33:25 AM »

Yet another party alert.  Friday is Fox's birthday.  As the Chinese say,

Happy Happy Every Day!
th_ag th_ag ce th_ag th_ag
Fox knows the rules.  Random acts of perversion and other antisocial behaviors are expected.

Happy happy B'day Fox.  I wish you the best for the day and the year.   th_ag th_ag th_ag   ce

Isidnar -->  you don't have your birthday listed in your profile so we couldn't wish you the best even if it was tomorrow.  Also, it is a tradition to wish all our  active members the best on their birthdays  ---- >  Every year.  For George the number of candles on his cake requires the local fire brigade to be in attendance  -  just in case   th_ak th_ak

Isidnar, Thanks for giving me this opportunity to say a couple of things. It means a lot to me when folks take the time to send birthday wishes. th_bf I guess it is because I have been around here for a few years and the folk become "special" to me. I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I even feel a bit hurt when some of our Saloonies don't bother to take that little bit of time to acknowledge one's special day, particularly when they have visited the Saloon on that day. Maybe it's because I know that my time is short and also that I don't visit other sites except if someone here mentions one. Think about letting us know your special day or even choose a day, so that those of us who interact with you can show you that you really do mean something to us and that we do want to wish you all the best and have a bit of fun with you. th_bf th_u  Meanwhile I hope Fox is still candyraver dancemj

I do hope you all realize that that was a joke. th_ab

(Though I am a person who doesn't like to make a big deal out of his birthday. Perhaps I identified with Fox's birthday here since we are the same age.)

open day at the school with the usual 100's of parents attending. I am the science teacher in primary. I decided it would be interesting to cover expansion and contraction in relation to heat.  Rice wine bottle at the ready with an egg inside which was part one of the experiment working as it should. (light a taper drop it in the bottle, put the peeled hardboiled egg on the top of the bottle and when the heated air cools it sucks the egg into the bottle)  however to retrieve the egg is a harder task. You have to hold the inverted bottle whilst pouring hot water on it, air inside gets hotter and expands, therefore pushing the egg out.  The school gave me a metal one handed clampy thing, you see the cooks use them to fish out things from boiling oil or water. anyway, it was far too light a thing especially on a wet slippery bottle, well, youve guessed it, the bottle not only fell on the floor smashing, but it hit the corner of the bowl which was used to catch the boiling water, so that too tipped over. i noticed several parents with video cameras and some pointing phones at me, so i assume i will be on youku now.

In fairness i did find a solution to retrieve the egg but it wasnt in the intended manner.

The evening was a lot more peaceful with dinner at the inlaws - good people.  I was trying to setup a wireless router for them But i dont read chinese and i thought i would be able to figure it out, but alas, not to be.  im determined to fix it on my next visit though.

So yeah, a day i wont forget easily.

Im not big on birthdays or anything that reminisces a passing of time. I just dont get it seems an ego feeding activity, but im happy to contribute to other.  I do lean to the grumpy old man type though, but hopefully with a kind glint in the eye.  th_p
