Agreeing with most of you, what I like most about China is the lifestyle- and to join the chorus not having a car is at the top of the list. I love that cities are laid out in a way that little supermarkets are a walkable distance from virtually any apartment complex. I can get a button sewn onto a shirt with a two minute walk from my apartment. I also love all the families I see out in the parks on weekends and evenings. It just seems so wholesome. When I first came here I remember being somewhat dumbfounded that college-aged people were out playing badminton in a park on a Friday night instead of getting drunk with their friends The low cost of living is also awesome. It's nice to not really have to worry about money and basically be able to buy what you want when you want. And of course, the spring flowers over here put my hometown to shame 1)The lack of chavs.
Maybe I've been away from native speakers for too long- but I have no idea what that means! Hipsters? Punks? Homeless people? Please enlighten me!

It's an invented word, devised by largely middle class ppl, (or upwardly aspirational, self-concious lower class ppl) to distance themselves socially from another group of ppl who are largely poorer, have different tastes in fashions, music and past times etc. It reflects classism and snobbery imo.

It's strange considering what the government is like but it's a more free society in a lot of respects than England. There are much less video cameras and police on the streets. I think a lot of our freedom comes from the fact that we are outside of society to some extent

I'm trying to write a few things that haven't been covered yet. I like that if I want a drug that would be prescription only back home, I can usually order it at the local neighborhood drug store. I like that if I need blood tests to accompany taking that drug, I can walk into the hospital and have that specific blood panel done for 20rmb. I like that 6 months of Accutane (isotretinoin) with accompanying blood tests cost me 500rmb, less than half the cost of the same drug back home with health insurance. Thanks China, you baffle me most of the time, but you've cured 13 years of acne. The healthcare system here might not be amazing, but you can take care of yourself.

So you don't know what it means either then? Would have been better just to admit it, rather than post that drivel.

EDIT, EL is right - whatever AJ's reason for being here it doesn't effect me. Besides, he's a smeggin' hologram anyway Haha, that's poetic.

Now now boys. There's no need to fight. Besides, everyone with any education at all knows that chav is what French chefs call chives. I for one am grateful that China has far fewer French chefs than one finds in most western countries.

Isidnar, nice pics, but they belong in a thread called, amazingly enough...Chinglish. I dunno where it is, though. Might be in the Photo Album. Tis a long time since I had anything to post.
