Today we lost the author of such jewels as Where The Wild Things Are and In The Night Kitchen and Chicken Soup With Rice. 'Tis a terrible loss. He was 83...

Our copy of Where the Wild things are fell apart as we (me and my kids) loved looking at the pictures in there so much.

I wonder how many hundred times I read Where the Wild Things Are with my mom as a child? At age 83, his passing is sad, but not tremendously so. His masterpiece will live on throughout the history of mankind. RIP

I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.”
