Just goes to show: there's always some good news in American sports!
Today at some obscure golf tournament, as he was lining up a tricky putt, some spectator threw a hot dog (complete with bun and all the trimmings) at Tiger Woods. th_ah

Normally I don't follow American football. The game just doesn't appeal to me. It does have its own moments of grace, of speed, of controlled violence, of strategic vision and tactical nuance, but I just don't appreciate them in this context. Not my game.
But I do love an underdog, an overachiever, a make-us-all-believers. Coming from not far across the Niagara river, I do love to see the Bills winning again. I remember the heartbreak years the almost but not quite good enough years, and I love seeing them regain a little of yesteryear's glory. With just a touch of magic, who knows how far they might go this time?

Fear not, Buffalo looks like the real deal this year. If you didn't see the game, it's hard to imagine how deeply and thoroughly the Bills humiliated Philadelphia this week. I can't guarantee that Buffalo will make the Super Bowl this year, but if they keep going like this they're going to be a Team To Beat for the season, and have a good shot at the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Chicago-Detroit game is as advertised: a violent, defense-heavy matchup between two teams who DO NOT like each other...10 penalties called in the first quarter alone! It's currently Chicago up 10-7 at the half...

The Detroit Lions came back to win the MNF game, 24-13. Detroit and Green Bay remain the only two undefeated teams so far this season. The Lions are 5-0 for the first time since 1956... th_bi

Chicago's offense looked pretty sad...lots of mistakes and penalties. Detroit wore down Da Bears' defense and had it pretty much all their way from there.

Good news and sad news so far this Sunday.

The saddest news isn't from football. This year's Indianapolis 500 winner, Dan Wheldon, was killed in a 15-car crash at an Indy Series race in Las Vegas. He was 33. May he rest in peace. th_an

Buffalo lost another one, to the New York Giants.
Detroit finally lost, to a resurgent San Francisco 49ers team. Green Bay is the only remaining unbeaten (and very possibly unbeatable) team. At the end of the game the Detroit head coach lunged at the Niners' coach; only quickly pulling them apart avoided a fist fight. th_bi
Naw'lins lost, too, to Tampa Bay. th_as

The good news: New England beat Dallas in a squeaker. th_ax
New England ain't what they used to be, and though I hate to say it, the Cowboys are looking a lot tighter than in the recent past. It was 13-13 until mid-4th quarter, when Dallas kicked a field goal. It looked like they might pull it out, but Brady managed to pull out a touchdown drive that left only a useless 22 seconds in the game.
As we all know, the best way to beat a team from Texas is to snatch victory from them in the closing moments of the game. th_u

Tonight, Minnesota and Chicago. Theoretically should be a good game, but the way these teams look this year it will probably be more like a Three Stooges short. Shemp, not Curly. th_a

As expected: Chicago won, 39-10...and the game wasn't really as close as it sounds. The score is odd by 2 points because Da Bears managed to score a 1st-qtr Safety,  fer Pete's sake... th_bi

TEBOW!! TEBOW!!! TEBOW!!!!

15 straight fourth quarter points including running in a 2 point conversion with half a minute to go in the game, Tebow gets his team a win in OT on the road.

As a Broncos fan, all I can say is about time.   th_bi

Baltimore is not such an easy team to figure out.  th_m

Miami and Indy are though, and the way Green Bay is playing that race to the bottom, the Andrew Luck bowl as its being called, is just as interesting as the race to the top.

woke up early yesterday to watch the Ravens play one of the most frustrating games ever... I mean a pop warner team makes less mistakes! Credit goes to the Jags for one hell of a defensive effort though.

One race they're finally losing. Although if drafted, he would be useful washing and ironing Rogers' jock strap.

Today Dallas played Philadelphia. Cowboys owner and professional mouth Jerry Jones was all over the place saying that the Cowboys had this game circled on their schedule back in pre-season training camp. This was going to be the day when Dallas defined their season and made a loud-and-clear statement.

And make a loud-and-clear statement they did: by losing to malaise-riddled Philadelphia in a complete rout, 34-7. th_ax

I generally neither watch nor am interested in NFL events and happenings, but this article's headline caught my eye.  Hope it will come up for you.

The Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions are both 6-3.

The Indianapolis Colts are 0-10.

Maybe the Mayans were right.   th_s

The real deal (Buffalo) took a dive this week to guess who? With a Giant loss the Cowboys now are in charge of their own destiny.
