I know there's direct flights from where I am (Shenyang) to Tokyo and Osaka... it's probably the same for a few other cities too though!

Eggcluck, I don't think shared accomodation is always bad, especially if you're young and single. A lot of people don't like to room with others, period, and I think there's always the risk that you might end up with a total whackjob for a roomate, so that's mostly why people tend to be down on shared accomodation. But pretty much any roomate situation where you're being randomly assigned to some other person is a luck of the draw type thing and if you're easygoing enough shared accomodation isn't necessarily horrible, especially if you get lonely easily.
