This is about other cities and hope you all can add here about places around China
I had started talking to others about moving to another location within China as I am totally burnt out on Beijing.
The main city of my focus:
FUZHOU, Fujian Province:
1. Did you find work easily?
2. Did you find other foreigners there who were in our line of work?
Yes. I think both are true anywhere in China. But I have a degree and
a solid TEFL certificate and had experience before I came.
3. Environment: I was there but for short trips. Does it rain alot?
How about temps? And does FZ have a lot of Blue sky days?
Air pollution is sometimes moderately nasty; that's one reason Xiamen
is better. There's a fair bit of rain in Spring. Summer is hot, and often
muggy. Single-digit C in winter, but almost never freezes. There was
a tiny bit of snow once while I was there, fell at night, gone by 10 AM.
I was told that was the first snow in 20 years.
4. Foreign things: I like to have foreign foods sometimes. ANd of
course I know there are typical places but maybe there are some stores
which specialize in foods i may like?
Metro. Number 8 bus from center of town across river to the South.
Not nearly as many Western restaurants as Xiamen or Shanghai.
One good Italian place.
7. Why did you leave FZ?
Girlfriend and excellent job offer both in Shanghai.
8. Did you have any crazy shit happen to you while there?
Of course. This is China.
9. You were renting an apartment there? How much did you pay in
10. and what did you get? 1 bedroom? etc
Decent two-bedroom in reasonably central location, mostly furnished
but nothing fancy, 1300. A friend pays 1800 for unfurnished 2-br
dead center, 100 m from Dong Jie Kou.
Good info and seems still unable to find out more about Fuzhou, the search for spock continues. If you wish to add about Fuzhou or other cities Please go right ahead.

This probably belongs in the "location-specific info" area.

Perhaps one of the admins can move it?

If you can access youtube, there's an interesting series of videos called 'black man in china' and iirc they are all set in and around Fuzhou. Pretty entertaining stuff too

Fascinating topic, guys, it really is.
Too bad it's not the topic this area is supposed to be about.
Why not take your fascinating topic and start a new thread on it?

I guess sometimes I don't search well enough before I post. hehe sorry.
Still looking for more info about Fuzhou. The video about "black guy in china" was not very useful. was funny and cool but did not tell me anything I did not know already as I had been to fuzhou a couple of times already.
seems with all the development, a 2nd or 3rd tier city maybe also have plenty of chances.
hit or miss, it doesn't matter I made up my mind to go there next year after i finish up all my contracts.
I was unable to decide for a long time and finally just decided. right or wrong. live and learn
