I like bagels too....

But I like Vegemite more  th_ak!

Haven't been able to track it down in Guangzhou though...there MUST be some here somewhere  th_an!

Becstar, I really relate to your vegemite question - As you know it is essential to good living. For no particular reason I just did a search on taobao after reading your messsage for Vegemite and was very suprised to find several entries for Vegemite - so I guess Vegemite has now entered the realm of the possible here. I guess it is now time for me to learn how to use Taobao.

While scoping out bagels in Dongguan, I was able to snap these photos of what goes well with bagels. Corners Deli on Dongcheng East Road, just up from the One for the Road pub.




Confirmed bagel sighting in the freezer case just behind me as I snapped those photos. My intent was to get a photo of the bagels, too, but I got busted by the young lady working in the shop. "Sorry, no photos."

I paid my dues for 3 years in the deep countryside. "Mei you" cheese, butter, peanut butter, real cereal, bread that wasn't sweet.  I'm going back for a visit over the holidays and am taking food with me.

Yep, you know I used to like Ruth until she had to go post that "dairy porn." Now I think she's a cruel, cruel person. In fact the only think keeping me from snapping is that in one month I'll go back to the US for a visit. My first meal home will be breakfast and guess what it is? An onion bagel with cream cheese and lox from my favorite deli. (And I'm buying a roast beef sandwich in a bulky roll at the same time, technically for lunch, but if it doesn't make it to lunch I'm not gonna feel guilty about it!)

Actually, during my office hours yesterday I was talking about bagels and how I was going to eat one as soon as I got back. The students laughed and said, "You have your first meal all planned?!" I was like, "kid, I got my first 2 days of meals planned!" I do too! (Outback steakhouse here I come!)

Ooooohhhhh.... not just an old siting (I'd rather not talk about how many visits to the guilo-marts around bar street ended with "We had them last week.  Check back again next month." th_l), but a confirmed new siting. (drooool)

Did you buy and try them?  Are they good?

Should I tell the clerks that the ONLY reason I came is because of the picture?  th_ah

Forget bagels, cream cheese, marmite and vegemite. Those wonderful people at Pizza Hut China just introduced a new pizza today - The Golden Prosperity Pizza.

You have to see this thing to believe it: The pizza crust has 8 small "bread cups" around the outside filled with fish roe (caviar?) covered with cheese and 8 small hot dogs baked into the crust. The main pie toppings are chicken strips, bacon, green peppers and tomatoes. All for 69 RMB.

I wish I was making this up or found it at The Onion, but no this is true.
