I know people who used to crush Es and sniff them. Horrible sight.

Those stuff are easily obtained in China. Lots of clubs deal drugs. No one knows yet everyone does.  th_a

Children had disappeared at train stations, walking home from school or out shopping, sometimes they were told they could make money and were tricked into going along with kidnappers, other times they were drugged, the report said.

Some party drug.

Most rohynol in Oz is slipped to women in public places. The policing factor narrows down to the almighty dolloar. Which is why they have no sexual crimes unit on the Goldcoast. Raped there baby, you have to prove you were raped and then go to Brisbane for the official medical.

Every year the numbers on the coast are growing into an annual march called Reclaim the Night. Maybe one night they'll be enough voters in the crowd to actually make the local MPs do something.

Drugs are all over place here not just the big cities or foreign type clubs. X and Ketamine are really quite popular. Small town KTVs will have somebody doin' something.

I've got a friend that brought a bottle of the stuff from home...
he sells it as a party favor, calls it liquid E  th_ag

but he's from England so...

That isn't rohypnol, it's GHB, which sounds equally as grim, and does indeed get used as a rape drug in high quantities, but apparently has a mind-alterint effect in lower doses.

.... how anyone can be twsited/desperate/clueless/moronic/perverted enough to buy and use Rohypnol. Especially in China where, if you are desperate enough and willing to catch something really nasty, horizontal entertainment is not exactly difficult to find.

My days as a bartender in this college-centric area was ending as the "roofie" use was on the rise here. So, just as Bambam elsewhere mentioned the naivete of staff in recognizing it at first, I wonder how many passed by me. I remember learning more, bar towel in hand overhearing whispered comments or seeing items passed under tables. Never caught anyone "doctoring" a cocktail.
However, now with almost 8 years in student services and having for 14 years lived in and tended an historic fraternal property, I know that the use of rohypnol and other drugs is very definitely not limited to the "twsited/desperate/clueless/moronic/perverted..." It is just as likely, if not more likely in a college town, to be used by the tall, handsome, financially well-to-do young man who is bound for law school, or an MBA as not. Not only that, they brag of it. Moreover, and given credence by a young female assistant who did her degree here, there are those young women, equally attractive, from equally financially well-to-do backgrounds, equally upwardley mobile expect it. It absolves them of any responsibility for ending up in her GF's  or Sorority sister's BF's bed and, not unlike female gang members who participate in gang bangs to get "street cred" with their gang sisters, this is some sort of right of passage.

So pardon my cynicism. It's definitely moronic riks taking and it's not good. I certainly don't want to make light of the subjet. Drugs like this and used in this manner are definitely tell-tales of the (supposedly developed) world's expectations of instant gratification and if you don't give it to me, I'll take it. It's a pretty sad commnet on some aspects of modern life.

The Gold Coast has recognised the problem and has a Sexual Assault Coordinated Service. It commenced in 2001 and has forensic, medical and counselling services.

There is a huge need for this - especially around Schoolies Week when up to 50,000 year 12 students come to party.

Almost anything at this time turns itself into some form of date rape drug.

There will always be a need for these services at School orientations, oh, and spring breaks. All the area campuses have good counseling services, our campus a women's center serving not only students but faculty, staff, and assisting with town/county. "Take Back the Night" is a big draw on this and other area campuses. I think there is an over-all interest to curb, if not stop, date rape acitivities/drugs.... but it's the underlying complicity by niche groups that are like ice under the tires. You're moving foward, just not as well as you like and sometimes you slide backward.  th_bi

Didn't Nick Nolte get busted a couple of years ago for driving after he popped a Roophie (sic?)?

That's unbelievable Missi. I think you did the right thing. I would have done the same. It's just not my cup-o-tea.

yea, he calls it GHB... or G... or liquid E....
says back home folks write a big G on their wrist before taking it so if/when they pass out, others will know why  th_ag

I've seen folks doing ketamine.... `nasty stuff! & Very popular with the young Chinese party crowd.
Often, clubs will "allow" one of their guys in to sell it from what I hear, if another person comes in & tries sell any party favors, the club will get the local friendly coppers on him.

I don't agree with them selling it to the patrons... but I can see how it could be the lesser of two evils. At least this way they'd know exactly what it was the people were taking.

I don't think that's got much to do with their motivation, LT. It's defintely not a community service.

As someone who used to go raving a lot in the UK (But only drank water, honest, guvnor) I can confirm that ketamine is nasty stuff that totally ruined the rave scene.  Well that and crack.  When it was just speed and E the atmosphere was really good and friendly.  Then the combination of wrecked K-heads lying on the floor, and crackheads who wanted to rob people meant it all went quite literally to pot Sad

Lono don't do drugs and don't go to places where people do.

Not good stuff.

I had a roommate in college who came back from a rave high on E one night. I got a room change the next day.
