just came across a new Gem today...

http://www.51eng.com/en/

they claim to be the biggest book importer in China and can accept Cash on Delivery within the major cities. I browsed over their website and the selection is definitely not bad...

I have not used them but i figured that maybe someone here could and let us know if everything was alright before moving the link to the library

edit: The prices are actually pretty darn good compared to the brick and mortar stores... so scratch that, I might start using them very soon. I saw a john grisham novel for under 60 RMB when the cheapest you can get it in Beijing is 99RMB or 120

Looks good, although I searched for two not-that-obscure books (ones I already have, but just to test the water) - Atonement and the Wind Up Bird Chronicles, and it said it didn't have either Sad

Yeah, the selection isn't great right now, but perhaps will improve with time?

Books arrived today, so just a 6 day turn around. Not too bad at all, now i have V for Vendetta, My life on Mars and one of my favourite books of all time, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Bugs, those have all been made into movies in the last year.

Books are better than movies!
Mostly but not always. Give 'Jaws' a read sometime.

Not to mention LOTR.  Boring book, really, but fantastic film trilogy.

I much prefer reading, i don't like watching dvd's all the time and a book is much easier to use on the train than a dvd. Smiley

Also i wanted to see what the book V for vendetta was like compared to the film. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is one of my favourites that i will pass on to a good friend when I'm finished. As to "My life on Mars" i have never heard of it but I'm enjoying it so far.  th_ag

The LOTR book is a fantastic idea.  The breadth of scope that Tolkien came up with was, no doubt about it, incredible.  But he wasn't as great a writer as is sometimes claimed.

I read The Hobbit to my children when we were on a road trip, and not only was it a fairly long trip we had car problems and were stuck in a one dog town (no horse!) for a couple of days - it kept us sane.  They then went on and read LOTR for themselves later. We enjoyed it, and Golem stayed in my head for weeks after.
