Mountain expedition
« on: October 16, 2008, 03:54:57 PM »
Yesterday my nephew, his g/f, the Japanese FT and i climbed Hua Shan - one of the 5 sacred Daoist mountains in China.  It is about 100kms east of Xi'an - and incredibly beautiful.  It's a fabulous place to take guests who are reasonably fit.

Local in up-to-the-minute climbing gear.

The colours of autumn always blow this Queenslander away.

Mountain on fire:

And the signs are fascinating - I'm into bottomless bottoms!!

And climbing instructions that make no sense.

One of the several Daoist temples on the mountain

Hua Shan has 5 main peaks and is over 2000 metres, so the views are spectacular.

The locals show off their fitness by climbing with chokka backpacks and stopping to sing on the way!!

This one also added a little dance!

Breathtaking beauty

On the safety chains many people attach locks for luck (and heart shaped ones for love!)

At the base of the mountain life goes on.

Hua Shan is a magic place - well worth a visit.

I am so jealous, LE, and grateful for the glimpse of Chinese nature.  My lungs are still not up to the challenge, so glad you got the chance to go and see it for me.
Back home and still confused about what the locals are saying.
