Every semester I teach a lesson on music. One of my favourite songs to teach is Wilson Pickett's In the Midnight Hour. It's simple and easy to understand, but my innocent and romantic little darlings are completely oblivious to it's overt sexuality. When I ask them what it's about, I get the most priceless answers.
"Why is waiting until midnight to see her?"
Maybe he works late....
I think the girl is a ghost who appears only at midnight.
I think the singer is Batman, but the girl only loves him when he's Batman, so he's waiting until midnight to change into Batman.
"He says I'm gonna do all the things I told you. What do you think he told her?"
Maybe take a nice long drive somewhere...
Have a drink and look at the stars...
Maybe just hold hands and take a walk.
I love the looks on their faces when I tell them it's more or less just about sex.
