I think that's kind of the point about many recruiters though.

Someone with quals and experience shouldn't be doing one of these low pay high hours gigs in the middle of nowhere (unless they really want to!), but  by using your average recruiter, they could well end up doing just that.

Most recruiters (I would argue) do not try and match your wants, needs and abilities with any particular job, they simply want warm (and preferably white) bodies in place as quickly and with as little effort as possible.

Recruiters have been known to exaggerate, lie and manipulate to get people in place.  They will mostly abandon you after any fees have changed hands and will not offer you any help out of a bad situation they helped to get you in.

They may not all be like that, but there are plenty who are. 

Now, arguably as much as this is the potential teacher's fault for not doing their research as it is the recruiter's, but again, that's what's been said here over and over again too.
