I know we have a few mac users around here and if you're anything like me, you've been frustrated by the included pinyin IME that comes with every mac, right?

here is a good one that I just got my hands on and mirrors the ease of input found in windows IMEs:

http://fit.coollittlethings.com/

go to this section of the website "马上下载" and download...

enjoy

Uh... and? The installer forces me to reboot, but once I'm back up there is no sign of anything different. What am I missing?

After installing it, you need to:

- Go to system preferences
- choose the "international" pane
- activate FIT by ticking the box
-.... that's it  th_ag

Then, next time you want to write in Chinese, just pick FIT pinyin

Hey, now that I speak 2 or 3 words of Chinese I've been looking for a good pinyin input for mac. I'm gonna check out the thing that Nolefan posted back in 2008 (haven't yet) to see if it's still a viable link. However, when I googled pinyin input all the links talk about how the best thing out right now is QIM. Now I could pay for it, but does anyone know where I can get it for freee? If not I'll probably pay for it.

Since I asked that I'd also like to know if anyone's tried it. What do you think? Do you know any good, free accurate pinyin inputs for Mac? Once again I've yet to try the one in the OP, I will right now.

I don't know why I'm obsessed with having the most accurate, advanced pinyin input (which is what I've heard about QIM). Even the crap ones are probably more accurate than I can be at this point. Thanks anyway.  th_bf

FIT is now at http://funinput.com/
they went through a few years hiatus and then came out with a new version recently that i have yet to try. I've been pretty happy with the latest native built in IME for the little use i have of it.

So I've downloaded it. It rebooted my computer. I went to International, but I don't see any boxes that say FIT. Under Chinese the tabs available to me are: ITABC, Wubi Xing, and Wubi Hua. Not sure how to be using the software I just downloaded, as opposed to the regular OS X input method.  th_bi
