Anyone heard of EF franchise? My Inbox came with an E-mail from EF this week and I've so far heard bad things about their management running, thought + they apparently pay on time.
No, and we have never heard of McDonalds either. Haha. What I mean by that is they are one of the most famous franchises for English mills in China. Anyone's experience with EF would generally apply to that particular center only, and likely only within a range of a few years as management changes often, similar to many fast food joints.

This could, technically speaking, then be used to detain foreigners who are not carrying their ID cards, as we are all legally required to do.
This has been the practice here in Guangzhou, as far as I know, since I arrived. I got caught out once w/o my passport. I had to call my wife to come and bring it for inspection, otherwise get in the van and be taken away to wherever.

The police do a regular "shakedown" a few times a year stopping all white/black/non-asians near the front of Clifford Estates, and regularly stopping by homes to check for people if they don't have a current temp res. permit.

I'm a little bit surprised because that's the first time I've heard it, but I assumed it happened from time to time.

I never tried rabbit or frog legs/feet. I never knew they ate rabbit in China.
I've had Duck which is pretty tasty.

I have also tried escargot, which is a fancy name for snails.
 th_u. I prefer shrimp anyday.

I've also tried eel and squid pancake (they use the name cuttle fish in Korea).

That video I posted showed a bat on a stick. Eww!  th_a

Good point! I didn't realize Cantonese is more popular than Mandarin in Hongouver, as I've never been.

Btw, you are from very close to where I am from. Smiley

I am honestly shocked by this.

I was shaken down in Qinghai.

Not saying it happens a lot, but it does happen.

Not that those assclowns that got me needed any  new law to do what they did, but, worst case scenario and all.

Yeah Decurso that's what I mean. The whole thread assumes that the internet would be better at the Uni housing.

If the campus shuts down and you are using the campus internet, the big switch that says "DO NOT PULL" might be pulled and the holiday is spent in internet bars in Hangzhou.

@Bobrage : th_bf th_ag

Stil: I have experience with both. Not Hangzhou....but campus internet in China in general. Um...not much difference, really. In the middle of the jungles of Pathumtani, I could get pretty functional internet. Not GREAT or RELIABLE....but about the same as what you get on a Chinese campus. The biggest difference was that the Thai jungle-net was free.
