Last weekend got us through filling out a test copy.  This weekend, we try to get all the live copies filled out.  I also need to go get a new ID photo with the proper receipt which somehow makes it a legal photo.

Unless something truly bizarre happens to delay me, I'm turning in the application on the 31st.  I've got zero data on how long it will take for them to decide if I'm accepted or not.

Assuming I get through this, I'm going to see if I can get the US Consulate to share a little more info on how to give up my US citizenship.  There's a set of forms and I'm supposed to fill out the proper ones for my situation.  I've read them and am not sure exactly which ones I have to fill out and which ones I can skip.  I want to get that straightened out and have the correct ones ready.

Got all the way through Season 6 of Dexter before running out of disks.  I still need Seasons 7 and 8 (or a multi-region blue-ray player for the disks I picked up in the US).

Dexter has many of the same "good things that turned out bad" and "bad things that turned out good" type of plot twists than made Breaking Bad so fun to watch.  I haven't looked up who the writers are, but I suspect that there may be some overlaps.

Whoops, Game of Thrones went and ended. For some reason I thought season eight had seven episodes. But no, it was six, and last night was the last one.

This week and last week, I think, were less boring than everything else in season eight but mostly just because the book spoilers were new and somewhat unexpected. So I find myself looking forward to the books now. Which is annoying because, by jingo, if those books ever do get published it sure won't be soon...

I've contemplated starting the book series again. But I don't honestly think I can face it. Even the fact there are two books still to go and the trail is eight years cold....

EL mate, I find the Chinese folks to be very intelligent people. I have no doubt that they will know that you are a good person who will be an asset to their Country. Good luck with the paperwork this weekend! bjbjbjbjbj bfbfbfbfbf
I have cleared my schedule for the weekend (other than possibly going out for pizza).  This weekend, all the paperwork is getting filled out.  Here's the short version:

Dear China,

I love you.  Please let me be a citizen.

Yep. Couple of weeks ago, The Wandering Earth became available to stream on Netflix and the official subtitles came along for the ride.

As blockbusters go, there are a few issues, like for instance, WHERE'S THE DAMN NARRATIVE FOCUS, WHY DO WE KEEP JUMPING FROM BLOCKBUSTER LOCATION TO BLOCKBUSTER LOCATION?! Is it a driving movie, a buddy movie, a freaking Spring Festival movie, a war movie, a skyscraper disaster, or is it a goddamned space story?! JUST TELL ME ONE OKAY>!

Which actually is relatively minor as a complaint in a blockbuster. I mean, all of the different aspects are genuinely well accomplished. It looks great!

the movie has exactly one god, exactly one spiritual core, and it is nothing personified at all. It is nothing other than technical capability. Everyone and everything is not only subject to massed technical capability, THEY NEVER QUESTION IT, EVER! They might be pissed at how it has affected their lives. The kid is. But no one in the movie is horrified, and the movie itself is not horrified, at what they have done. THEY LAUNCHED THE EARTH OUT OF ORBIT.

My name is Charlton Heston. They are maniacs.

Did you get The Wandering Earth with English subtitles?

Iron Sky 2 - I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but if it's half as funny as the original, it will be well worth watching.  Will update soon.

The Wandering Earth (2019)

Chinese scifi blockbuster produces truly horrifying vision of materialist dystopia. Pretty to look at, though. probably should see it on a big screen. And afterwards try washing the soullessness from the soul you don't have anymore.

May 13, 2019.  ADDT's New Method of Durian Beast Containment Works Better Than Expected.  Zero Human Casualties!

The Australian Durian Defense Team successfully dealt with a hatched durian beast in the University of Canberra's library.  Despite integration of durian scent detectors into the building's fire alarm system, there was no warning before it hatched.  Evidently, a human who had been brain damaged by consuming durian sealed a durian egg inside of several layers of plastic and hid it on a high shelf in a remote corner of the library.

In order to minimize damage, flame throwers were not deployed.  Instead, a recently developed alternative method was used.  The beast was temporarily disabled by armor piercing bullets and then immobilized by spraying it with several hundred liters of liquid nitrogen.  It was then transported to a remote location and incinerated.  The ADDT reported that this method worked even better than expected and there were no human casualties.

To prevent panic, the evacuation of approximately 550 people was simply blamed on the stench of durian.  It's believe that none of the librarians or patrons became aware of the horrific danger they were in.  The cover story has been published to reduce suspicion over the incident.
