Title: China Telecom ADSL
Post by: Calach Pfeffer on April 30, 2014, 12:43:19 AM
Does anyone have current service info? Like, prices, speeds, other options. A google search for such items is quite bizarrely producing no links to anything remotely resembling service descriptions.

Oops, found it...

http://www.189.cn/

Residential Internet is the "宽带/固话" entry. (Third menu item down, and means "Broadband/Hardline"?)

They appear to offer 4M/8M/12M/20M options, and the price is cheaper if you buy two years at a time. And only the 4M is ADSL? The others are FTTH (Fibre To The Home)?

What do you use? I assume I'd be content with a 4M unlimited at 900 yuan per year. Has anyone tried that option? And lived?

Negative, I have 12M ADSL, the 20M should come across the phone line (if supported, my area only was up to this speed starting last year) as ADSL also.

Does anyone know what the "M" refers to?

For instance, I routinely see my download speeds peaking at or about 500 kB/s, which, according to the internet, is:

=4 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]
=4000 Kbps [Kilobit-per-second]
=0.5 MB/sec [Megabyte-per-second]
=500 KB/sec [Kilobyte-per-second]

Thus, I should assume I have a "4M" China telecom connection? (As opposed say to having a "0.5M", which would suggest one real China Telecom connection split between several suckers "users".)
