What is the scariest thing that has happened to you in China so far??

Well it's a toss up between seeing some unconventional hygeine practices (think food, hospitals, kids peeing everywhere...) and driving along a road through the mountains in Yunnan after a storm. There were landslides, falling rocks, waterfalls over the road and one super crazy driver who seemed to think her minibus was a 4x4. That was real white knuckle stuff.

If you had a secret room accessed through a bookcase, just like the movies, what would you keep in it?

would you also have laughed watching my turtle rubbing his face/mouth against the stones on the bottom of the pond trying to get one of the buggers I often toss to them unstuck from his beeakish teeth?

What's your earliest memory?

Of our car getting bogged when we went on a fishing trip with friends.  I remember my father not being happy!  I was 9 months old and my mother swears I could not have remembered it, but she agrees it did happen, and it was not a story she told as a reminiscence.   I think even then it made an impression on me because my father was one of the most peaceable, patient, calm and happy men you could meet - and this was way out of character.
