Chinese Names for Good Sauces for White Rice, Etc.?
« on: April 05, 2020, 08:33:09 AM »
Hi Everyone,

In the Wumart, I am still at a loss for sauces, toppings, etc. to put on white rice, bland noodles, etc.

Can anyone give me the Chinese names for some good stuff?

For example, if you were moving to California, I would suggest Sriracha.

When I was in Hong Kong, there was something that looked like crushed olives, made of leaves instead, but was so delicious.

I would love pictures, so I can scan and get some good stuff.

Tastes vary.  I like "Master" brand and "Pearl River" brand of soy sauces and prefer the darker varieties.  You may hate them.  Let me suggest you try what I did when I first arrived in China.

Buy small bottles of several sauces and test them out.  When you find one you like, buy a big bottle, but keep buying small bottles to test.

I did the same thing with ramen, cookies, etc.  I'd buy minimum amounts until I found something I liked.  Then I'd buy a big pack of what I liked and keep buying single servings/smallest possible packs of other things I hadn't tried yet.

All these years later, I still buy the occasional "I've got no clue what this is" item to test.
I'm pro-cloning and we vote!               Why isn't this card colored green?

you gotta go for the Chinese classic 老干妈
Easy to find, pretty darn good and a cult following to rival sriracha. it's the hipster's sriracha actually. Comes in a few flavors
