Title: Contemporarydog
Post by: Raoul F. Duke on January 19, 2010, 01:59:15 PM
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/RaoulSaloon/Saloonies/condog.jpg)

By ways remote and distant waters sped,
Brother, to thy sad graveside am I come,
That I may give the last gifts to the dead,
And vainly parley with thine ashes dumb;
Since She who now bestows and denies
Hath ta'en thee, hapless brother from mine eyes.
But lo! these gifts, the heirlooms of past years,
Are made sad things to grace thy coffin-shell;
Take them, all drenchèd with a brother's tears,
And, brother, for all time, hail and farewell.

No, dammit, I don't want  to add a new thread here. llllllllll

Especially not one like this.
Condog was a great guy. Smart, warm, creative...he was a young man with a bright future.
He leaves a lovely young wife and a little son behind.
He was an old friend of myself personally, and of the entire Saloon.

I don't know what happened, and I can't wrap my mind around why this man was taken from us, so young and so suddenly.
I can only say Godspeed, my friend, may your soul find its rest.
We will miss you. ananananan ananananan ananananan

not many details. he was found in his flat yesterday

he had been back in england for about a year and a half. really don't want to speculate

i only met him in real life a couple of times but i've known him online for years and years. he was so young and he had so many ideas and good words for everyone, it really is shocking and unfair

this is a story he wrote about a month ago. i can't bare to read it again :(:(:(:(

ConDog and gonzo were the two who got me to switch over to the Saloon from that other place. I had been exchanging PMs with CDog at the Sleezy Goon, and as we were both in the same city and had common interests, the plan was always that our families would get together and get to know each other. Life, as we all know, is what happens while you make other plans. I made trips to my home country, he and his family moved to England and it seemed we'd never be more than two guys who liked each other and corresponded a bit.

Noodles, I find any Stella I'm inviting you (any of you) over for a wake.

I mean, I dunno what to say. I met the guy a few times in and around Newcastle (UK). F*ck me. That was a shock. The guy is 32 for fuck's sake. Does anybody know how this happened? Having chatted to him I think I may know but would like to be sure.

I talked to him two weeks ago. He was definitely not in a good state, but like James I don't want to speculate.

Even though I never met him, I considered him a friend. We talked often, and I suspected we were kindred spirits. We were close in age, both boxing fans, both sci-fi geeks, both parents with kids fairly close in age (who were both born in China), both amateur writers with a love of literature, we liked the same movies and could argue endlessly about what the best James Bond movie was or who was the most powerful Jedi/Sith.

The worst thing about this is that his life was so incomplete. He was working on a graduate degree, he was working on a novel that he had the talent to get published, he was going to come back to China-and he had a beautiful son who will grow up without a father.

 Mathew, I can't believe you're gone.

I still cant get my head around this.

Quote
but like James I don't want to speculate.

But there is the problem, i think i kind of am speculating, and i so so want to be wrong.

That's why i cant stop thinking about this, like decurso said, Matt was someone i could relate to a lot and we had lots of similar interests. I just cant believe we wont be seeing his posts here anymore..

This is very sad. Despite an age gap of several decades, CD and I had much in common [Chinese family, going home, further study in education], and often PMd both here and on some other forums. I felt like I knew him and find his death very disturbing.

I haven't been on the Saloon much lately. I've been fairly busy. My heart broke when I heard about CD. I've been on forums with him for over 7 years. We used to talk on MSN and send messages on Facebook. He was a truly sweet guy. I will really miss him.

Thank you Kitano for posting that story...I have to say it was brilliant. I met Matt about 5 times in 2004 and then followed him on Daves and Face over the years. I had read one of his stories before, but this one is a definitely more developed... and incredibly sad when you realize what happened later. Again great story, plot works well..and it really lets you in to what he was going through. I remember him as a good listener, a good speaker of French and obviously a sensitive, intelligent guy...scary as he was only two years older than me.

As a fellow Matt, I wish I known CDog. I think we'd have got on well....
I've read his past posts on the Spoon and here, seems like a good guy...we'd have had some good chats.
Pity how things can go wrong.
He was far too young...I don't know what happened.

I just hope little Thomas is doing ok.
You are not forgotten, as long as you live in the saloon.
