China is No.1 . . ( 47)

The “World Giving Index” is the first report of its kind looking at charitable behaviour across the world. Using data from Gallup’s Worldview World Poll CAF looked at three different types of charitable behaviour – giving money, giving time and helping a stranger and used the results to produce the “World Giving Index”.

China comes in at 147th place (see Fig.1)

For the top 8 places see Fig.2

Looks as though the Aussies   akakakakak are the most generous bastards in the world.  akakakakak Well done!  bfbfbfbfbf

I think if China had pokie machines and League clubs they would rocket up to near the top of the table in short time.  uuuuuuuuuu

Good question.  I can't help but see everything through the lens of my Hosteded book lately, so my first reaction is that this index does not count giving to family members.  And an old saying comes to mind that, "Charity begins in the home".
"The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore attempt the impossible and achieve it, generation after generation.

i'd like to know how they did the research

it would be interesting to know how they ranked 'helping a stranger' in lithuania for example

also, in england the south is much less friendly than the north etc

i can believe china ranking very low tho, people are very helpful if they know you, but they don''t give a hoot about strangers

Same thing caught my eye, Kit. Methodology can make or break sociological research.
(I wonder if the researchers were all English speakers?)
