Hey, not sure what this means, but something interesting has been happening lately.

The local Foreign Affairs whatever sends emails to the registered foreign teachers with info. NOt much or often, but some. Like, today, the OFFICIAL list of organizations that can legally employ foreigners in this province. I have seen lists before, but not one that is official if you know what I mean.

Anyone else get this? Could be a useful database if we had it for the more popular provinces.

I've never heard of it and I don't get emails from anybody official, either.

(I feel left out. But maybe being ignored is a good thing...)

Yeah, and the official list is a LOT shorter than I thought, 133 inlcuding all schools, private and public and unis etc. My Uni is on it though, as is my last one.

The list of teachers they send the email is real short too.

Another one is that chain schools seem to have to register by province, too.

And the main corporate teaching school is NOT allowed to employ foreigners but do. Hmmm.

Any chance you could post that list?

I'd kill for one of those for Suzhou.

I think it is province by province. They just also sent me the English versions of the documents for changing jobs etc.

The Jobs link at that site (Angelina's) is the best collection of live jobs that I've seen. There is some connection between that site and SAFEA, or so I've heard.

I saw a job posted there for a school that I know is looking right now because the FAO called me last week to ask if I knew anyone looking for a job. I also know that the school is too cheap to pay for ads. I'm sure they notified SAFEA they were looking, and their information ended up on that job list.

I went through the list of jobs in my city and was able to recognize or figure out which schools they were even though none of them were named directly. The problem of course is all jobs listed there are referenced through the recruiter. But for most of the schools, the "introduction to the school" is lifted directly from the schools' own websites. The specific name of the school is deleted, but something like a Provincial Science and Technology Institute is looking for...." Just substitute the name of the province, get on the Google, and find the school's website. Then contact them directly. Or take a "unique" piece of Chinglish from the Intro, pop it into Google, and you'll probably find the page on the school's own website.

A site like ChinaTEFL.com is good in that it gives you the contact information so you can contact the school directly. The problem is that those ads are often out-of-date. Angelina's seems to have the most current live jobs. You just have to do a little work to suss out the school from the info provided. Then contact them directly.

Always strive to contact the schools directly rather than go through a recruiter.

I heartily concur. I had the same thought when I was looking it over. It's the only recruiter list I've ever seen that had multiple jobs paying over 10K.
And you're dead-on about the approach to take...use their list to suss out the advertiser and then contact them directly. NEVER take a job through a recruiter. ANY recruiter.
