At some point, the dazzling knowledge and sheer population-invigorating charm that was supposed to have been delivered to the Chinese people by the barbarian foreign teacher will have been delivered. The English will have been learnt. One may claim that this wealth of intangibles was and never will be properly appreciated nor adequately replicated, but at some point Their Chinese will, to put it bluntly, take your job. It can't go on, is what I'm saying. "Foreign" teachers surely either become marginalised in the great Chinese development project or they do something else.... But what?
