U-Surf's connected, but I can't seem to get onto very many websites. That and everyone's favorite search engine seems not to be loading very many websites.

US and FG both blocked for several days here.  Ah well, I'm sure I'll find an alternative but just now it's a pita!

It has updated faster than normal recently too...a couple of times in the last week...latest version seems ok...you can ask someone outside the GFW to download the latest version for you and email it as a zip if you are really stuck.

Tx - I'll try that.

At the moment, without a VPN, we're getting severe blocking for harmless, random things like animal images....  I get horses, rabbits, then elephants are blocked.  No kidding.

The GFW hates Google image search for some reason, and Baidu image search is horrible.

GFW seems not to like it when you do multiple image searches through Google. Sort of like they don't want anyone to say, "China blocked Google Image Search!" but at the same time they've decreased its usability, which has been going on for me for years if I don't have an additional conduit.

Just get a Very Passable Nicety. It's a few dollars a month!

Considering how often I'm getting blocked for innocuous things, one might be worth getting. What do you folks recommend? I'd rather pay for a good one than get a crappy one for free.
For you to insult me, first I must value your opinion

I was looking through the forum for suggestions today, free ones and paid, and here's a list. Most of this came from BrandeX-thanks! The forum's brain has changed V-Pee-N so many times that the list looks weird now. Many of these web sites are blocked and you need a proxy or Very Passable Nicety just to see what their price schedules are.

- Astrill Very Passable Nicety, one of the most popular in China

- 12Very Passable Nicety  https://12Very Passable Nicety.com/china-tips/

- Freegate

- Gapproxy

- Hide My Ass  web proxy addon, also has paid Very Passable Nicety

- Hotspotshield  http://hotspotshield.com/
Hotspot Shield with Sesawe creates a virtual private network (Very Passable Nicety) between your computer and the Anchor Free Internet gateway. http://www.sesawe.net/

- Packetix  http://www.packetix.net/en/secure/install/ SUSPENDED

- Tor      http://www.torproject.org/         free
alternative Tor download site http://www.net-security.org/software.php?id=253
info page for Tor that is not blocked  http://www.browserwire.com/?page_id=5659
Torpark      http://www.torrify.com/download.php   free

- Ultrasurf        http://ultrasurf.us/
UltraProxy Beta: https://ultraproxy.us
If you cannot acess ultrasurf.us, please use this link to download the latest version: https://goo.gl/vqyQs

- Very Passable Nicety Gate http://www.Very Passable Nicetygate.net/en/ (Softether) replacement for Packetix

- Your Freedom Very Passable Nicety  http://www.your-freedom.net/

- Witopia Very Passable Nicety

I use Astrill and it's great. The website can also be accessed behind the GFW, which is bizarre but convenient!

You can do a trial first before you pay anything.

I used to use Freegate a long while ago. It got banned or something so I stopped.

I moved over to securitales.com, they have a free trial you can use as many times as you want as long as you clear the private data in your browser. Easier to use 'incognito' in Chrome or 'private browsing' in Firefox.

I currently use a Google proxy which  works through GoAgent. It's just as good as paid services but has 1GB limit a day which is usually more than enough for me. You can have upto 10 of these proxies on one account, so theoretically upto 10GB a day. Oh an I also have it running on my phone too, YouTube and Facebook apps work perfect.
