Firefox upgrade problems
« on: December 09, 2009, 06:16:48 PM »
Is any one having problems with the new version of Firefox?  I upgraded, but now although it opens a home page easily, it won't load pages within it.  So I can get to the forum homepage, but not open any of the new posts etc.  I can go into gmail, but not open the emails.

This is frustrating as I don't relly like IE.

Try google chrome instead. I have it on my laptop and desktop, it's brilliant.

My problem with the new Firefox is that it takes up too much RAM and my computer constantly freezes because of it. I'm using Chrome now, but it also has its problems.

I'm a chrome convert too. I like firefox but it is so damn big and takes so long to load and crashes a lot. Chrome is nice and quick and I like some of the unique google features.

Firefox seems to have turned into MSIE, dammit. llllllllll
I'm still using it, but probably going to Chrome. It seems to be the most highly-praised browser right now.

The new beta came out today and is quite nice. It does quite a few things that I wish Safari did...though I've been much happier with Safari since installing glims.

I've just installed Chromium (Linux OS version of Chrome)and so far I'm liking it. It doesn't have a few of the trusty add-ons that I love in Firefox, but so far so good.
You have to care for it to matter.

I'm the original Firefox fanboy, and even I'm forced to admit that they might be starting to lose the plot slightly. I don't mind a heavy-weight browser with loads of bells and whistles that gobble RAM, but that's because I'm a geek. Normal people want something light, simple and reliable. I'm reluctant to recommend going Chrome because one day we're all going to wake up with Google tatooed to our foreheads. As alternatives, Opera and Safari for Windows are worth trying. If you liked old Firefox, you could try SeaMonkey (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/). It's based on the same nuts and bolts as Firefox, but without the stems and seeds that you don't need. (That's a Cheech and Chong reference by the way, showing my advanced age here).

I rescind my glims recommendation. It made my system INCREDIBLY unstable.

Until Chrome becomes mature, Safari remains the fastest option on Mac.

Anyone try chrome on a mac?

Running the Beta right now and I'm quite pleased with it.. it has the potential to take over all browsing duties soon.

Safari 4.x is so far unstable and one hell of a memory hog whereas the 3.x series was the BEST browser ever on a mac in my opinion. I've basically stopped using it 2 weeks ago after one-too-many system freezes where it wasn't doing nothing and taking up 500MB of RAM. Camino is my default browser on the mac but i got a feeling that chrome might take that spot soon

On windows, I swear by chrome, bar none.
