New Hard Drive for lap top ....
« on: October 09, 2012, 12:44:22 AM »
I know, I should know how to do this, but....

I just bought a new Hard drive for my lap top. The old one fried.
So, I put the new HD in and i think i need to partition the disk then format it correct?
But, I'm not sure how to do it.

I have a windows 7 cd. Any help would be most appreciated !

The hardware's all plugged in already?

Click here, and scroll down to "Set Up The Drive In Your BIOS".

After that, install your operating system.

Then, partition. (Which you do from inside Windows: take a look at "Extra Storage: Managing New Disks" on that page linked above.)

Or, if you want, you can partition at the beginning of the Windows install procedure. But that means you already know how much space you want for your system disk. Do you?

(Rapidly exhausting any putative expertise I have here, Google may be a better friend right now.)
