Hi Everyone,

My weak link is lesson planning.  It takes me three times as long to do, and I find it the most boring thing in the world [that is not a hyperbole].

1.  Any way to get better at lesson planning?

2.  Any great lesson plans that you use as a template, etc.?

For most Chinese schools, follow the book - that's what most of them expect.  The lesson plans I submit are nothing but page numbers and exercise titles.  That's what they want.

In the past, I have used personally modified versions of some of the SIOP templates.

Hi Ivyman, yeh that has always been an issue for me.  I think there's a lot to be said for CWL's suggestion.  Tinker with your plans occasionally when you have some spare hours, to satisfy your own development and commitment to your students, but if you notice too much time slipping by, don't be afraid to just go with prescribed materials as the default route.

I think that having a good template is the key

For example, a 90m university class

5m Admin/Greeting
10m Warm up activity
10m Present language
10m Reading listening
10m controlled practice
BREAK
10m Controlled practice
25m MAin excercise
10m Review and corrections

Something like that to then fit activities into is a great way to avoid the 'writer's block' phase. You don't have to stick to it, but just something to get you rolling...
