One-offs that leave me wondering - in China
« on: December 02, 2013, 03:35:33 AM »
Every so often I come across something that I want to forward to the Saloon, but hold off because it is not enough to warrant a thread. So, if anyone has 'such' then they are welcome to kick it into here.

Ever wonder what a Bandicoot looks like? George is our resident expert on vermin in Australia (excluding New Zealanders for the purpose of this exercise) so he might like to comment on this branding:

This is what a bandicoot really looks like.

As you can see, it looks nothing like the wallaby in Xwarrior's photo.

Can we get the bandicoot to stand up on its hind legs?  That would make comparison easier.

Better attempt that 'Crash Bandicoot'

He's the wrong colour, standing up, wearing jeans and grinning. He had a car and a jetpack if I remember right

from Wikipedia

Royal warrants of appointment have been issued for centuries to tradespeople who supply goods or services to a royal court or certain royal personages. The royal warrant enables the supplier to advertise the fact that they supply to the issuer of the royal warrant, so lending prestige to the supplier. Royal families of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden, among others, allow tradesmen to advertise royal patronage.

In Japan, that sales gimmick would never work - unless it came with a certificate that the underwear was really used by her. ahahahahah

I guess this scene could come from any country in the world.

What has me wondering is that I have never seen anything like this before in China.

Thanks xwarrior! I would have thought that you would have seen plenty of such scenes in China. I always say that these Asian folk can sleep standing up. Only yesterday I observed a young Chinese lass sitting with her legs crossed under her, shoes off and her head down on a table and she was fast asleep! She had some sort of computer gadget with her and I made it my business to come back past her and check that she was still alive. I am still trying to figure out why these folk appear to need to cat nap in many different situations. I'd love to look over the toilet door and see if they sleep on the loo as well. ahahahahah ahahahahah

I agree, Granny Mae.

The difference with this situation was that the young guy had been drinking - and public drunkenness in daylight is not common in China.

Yeah, I see what you are talking about now xwarrior. bfbfbfbfbf I must say that I am always surprised by the fact that most of the Asian males (and females) don't appear to take advantage of the fact that they can have free alcohol in the top rooms at the Casino. They come there for the free food and many take as much as they can fit in their bags. Many of the guys bring carry bags and take fruit and biscuits etc and soft drinks which appear to be imported from China. bibibibibi  A bit off topic I know, but as a matter of interest, I notice that they are now cutting up the oranges before putting them out. I reckon that this is being done to stop this practice. ahahahahah ahahahahah

I guess this one should go here. Walking across campus today, I encountered one of those huge posters plastered across the front of the Dining Hall promoting the uni's upcoming month of seminars and sessions on interviewing featuring various national and international companies. It's springtime, after all, and students are looking for post-graduation jobs, as well as summer internships. So here's the huge poster the Student Union created (click on the picture below). I'm guessing the meaning they were reaching for was something like, "Spring is coming and the winds of jobs will be blowing across the campus soon, like the emerging cherry blossoms. Catch the wind!"

At least that's how I would write it. But those are too many words for a Chinese poster accustomed to 4 or 8 words. So they picked out for main English words to use. You decide. Click the pic below. Discuss.
