Title: Quanzhou
Post by: George on February 20, 2010, 07:20:04 PM
A few pics around Quanzhou..
Let's start with a bit of open space...nice to see green again!
The old, traditional houses all have the kicked-up corners on the roof, but many of the new buildings keep this tradition as well.

Lots of Family temples...we saw many belonging to various branches of the Hong family, whose ancestors date back around 500 years. An early Hong was a tutor in the Emperor's household, and was allowed to build his home in the Royal style. Hence the traditional buildings above.

The carvings on the temples are beautifully done..a column

A bit of street theatre.

Part of a parade..

On this particular day, we attended the opening of a year-round exhibition Centre. 8 local factories planned their official openings for the same day. The fireworks were immense!

After all the blah-blah-blah, we attended an official lunch for over 1000 people. (pics coming)

bibibibibi I forgot the Lunch pics. This is a brand new factory, ready to make....something! 100 tables, 10 people per table.

Some of these girls had never even seen a restaurant before, I am sure of it!

That factory's polished granite flooring looks slick.

Literally.

Especially for servers in patent leather heels (cf. lead server out of the "kitchen" in Pic #2).

Which table(s) were the local Occupational Safety and Health Bureau seated at?
 ahahahahah ahahahahah ahahahahah

@Schnerby - Cool it with the Boom Booms. Fireworks season is over here.

Back @George:
Quote
This is a brand new factory, ready to make....something!

Judging by the table and chair coverings...and the servers' "outfits": A textile factory.

Not fabric, not cloth, not garments nor clothing, just red felt textiles - suitable for draping tables.... and servers.

We did have a table full of cops right next to us.
Looking at the second pic, in the background are the work benches with spools of some kind overhead, so it could possibly be electrical somethings. The nearby town is obsessed with plumbing and bathroom fittings.

The traditional opera always manages to stun me.

Impressive stuff.

Have you heard about the guy who can 'change' his opera face in a split second? Face changing -and the speeds/mechanisms they employ- have been big, historic traditions too.
