I had lots of practice with this one when we lived on top of a hill in northern Ontario.  On one particular day I tried three different ways to get home.  Had a car full of kids at the time (too young to be useful at pushing).  Town thoughtfully provided a box of sand at the foot of the hill.  Finally made it with the sanding and a long head-start run for it
