A glass of beetroot juice boosts endurance by reducing the amount of oxygen needed during physical exercise, a study says.

Subjects who drank the juice easily outperformed a control group in tests and were able to exercise at the same intensity for up to 16 per cent longer.

I've never questioned the healthy aspects of eating (or drinking) beets.  What you Aussies do that is so, ummm, not right (trying to be PC here) is to put the darned things on hamburgers.  The quote doesn't say anything about the health benefits of that little culinary quirk.

No, Ruth and Noodles are on the right track.

Beets are perfectly acceptable as food...as long as you don't spoil a perfectly good hamburger with them. aaaaaaaaaa

I keep trying to tell you Australians...this beets-on-burgers thing will only serve to anger the gods. THIS IS WHY THE RAINS HAVE STOPPED. bibibibibi

And this may get me booted from the Saloon, but (and I posted this on the other beets on burgers thread), beetroot on burger is really good, especially pickled. Even to this American's palate. If you need an image, think of it as a grilled red onion.

And Tim Tams for dessert after any meal.  bhbhbhbhbh

If you can have pickles on burgers, (pickled) beets are not a stretch
