Thanks pydilyk! What great photos! bfbfbfbfbf I was surprised to see the folk squatting down to shear the sheep. In Australia, shearing is mostly done whilst bending at the waist. I really like to see photos of animals, especially when they seem free and are not being tortured or skinned alive, but that's a whole other story. The scenery is so fantastic and it is also great to see how other folks live. agagagagag

Thanks for the pics.. this is the first year I don't make it to Xinjiang since pretty much 2007 and the Kashgar/Karakul/Tashgurkhan side is by far my favorite.
I'm gonna plan a trip back asap

We just got back from Xinjiang, including Kashgar, and it was every bit as awesome as it looks. I'll be posting my own pics soon once I get them sorted!

My husband came away with a much more favorable impression of the Uighurs than he had expected. The people I think were the highlight of the trip. They treated us all very warmly and were curious and courteous to a fault. The only thing that bugged him a bit was the language barrier in Kashgar. It was incredibly hard for him to communicate because hardly anyone spoke Chinese and cultural expectations seemed to be very different, it was really like a different country almost. He mentioned to me that he thinks people who visit Kashgar will suddenly see *exactly* what all the um, fuss is about (from the Uighurs POV), if you catch my drift. But it was all very safe and we never felt in danger and I think my husband came away with a lot more understanding of the region and no longer has a knee-jerk "danger" reaction about Xinjiang. :)

Great photos. Thanks.

I have not been to Kashgar yet, but it is top of my list of places in China I'd like to go. Your pics make me want to head that way soon.
Who put a stop payment on my reality check?
