Best Villages, Etc. in China to Visit?
« on: March 23, 2022, 10:22:12 PM »
Hi Everyone,

As an experiment to practice my woefully beginner Chinese skills, my mentor says to go to a small village, with only books, etc. and no computer translator or Chinese friends/girlfriend.

Then, I can get some real-world experience and learn to survive, in Chinese.

Any recommendations of nice villages, good weather, to hang out for a few weeks?

No evil people, terrible pollution, spoiled food, etc.?

Logically, if you want to use this to learn Chinese, you might want to skip areas with local dialects (aka home town languages) are likely to be commonly spoken in villages.  Although there are exceptions, aiming for the northeastern part of the country is probably your safest bet.

I can't make any specific recommendations, since the villages I'm most familiar with have heavy usage of local dialects. (Localized Cantonese where I live. Miao and Tu languages in the places I visit in Hunan.)
