Can I piggyback this thread and ask a general question- do you guys usually get Yahoo,Facebook, Twitter and Google okay unless something is happening?
How about Skype? is that readily available in the Middle Kingdom? cheers just wondering how I will get in touch with my kids.

I think Skype works fine.

Yahoo and Google as web portals / search engines usually fine.  Some of Google's extra stuff is blocked (Google docs I think?), and if you search for something the GFW (Great Fire-Wall) doesn't like, it will block everything for a few seconds / minutes as punishment!

Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are all unavailable in China presently (there are ways and means, however).

(Guess what - the linked website is probably unavailable in the PRC too :))

Seems to be true. It's a new thing,  there is a post about it upstairs too.  Not sure of exact ramifications yet.
