This is China.

Laws like paper.

So easily dismissed.

Not a bribe.

Don't do that.

If I did...

Cash only, (wo)man.

This is China.

Teachers receive bribes.

New law promulgated.

Clean up act.

May take time.

Why run risk?

Foreigner loses face.

No Chinese care.

Veering off for a bit:

What's with the insinuation of bribery, Lotus?

Some boring details I didn't think would be necessary because I didn't realize I'd be accused of/warned of bribery:

An entire DEPARTMENT took me out. Some of the students I don't even teach. Some I do. Some I have treated to lunch on my own dime, previous. Additionally, I won't be teaching these kids next semester. They're good kids. They work hard. Whatever grades they get will be/are earned. Many of them know I've been burning out as of late and I came away with the very distinct impression - after more than a handful of students privately asked me if I was still feeling stressed out and wishing for me to have a good time, which I did end up having - that they were actually worried about me.

Students liking a class and a teacher. Wow, that's an impossibility, huh! bibibibibi

I just cut out the dry bullshit for some three word sentences.  bibibibibi

So, please respect my desire to have this subject dropped.

If any disgruntled, local asshole wants to actually lobby claims of bribery against me, let them do so. The worst thing that can happen to me is that I lose my job and am deported, despite being 100% innocent. Oh well. I have nothing to fear.

I suggest the subject be changed and the three word silliness resume with something that has NOTHING to do with suggesting impropriety towards another member on the board.

Teachers receive bribes?

Whoa Spaghetti, overreaction.

Not accusing you.

Answering Grannie's question.

This IS China.

Teachers take bribes.

Usually Chinese teachers.

New law out.

Aimed at corruption.

Includes accepting meals.

Foreigners easy target.

No helpful guanxi.

Shows people action.

No offence meant.

New topic now.

Holidays coming soon! agagagagag agagagagag agagagagag

I misread context.
I'm sorry, Lotus.

Vacation coming soon.

I can't wait.

As much as I get annoyed at Spag for tossing the rules of this thread overboard, I'll have to side with him on this.  The article was about bribes involving things like contracts for books and uniforms, not who wins the contest to see who gets to pay the check.  Accepting a bribe for grades is wrong.  Getting a free lunch wouldn't even be much of a bribe by western standards.

And now returning to the spirit AND rules of the thread...

Free lunch!  Yaaaay!!!   agagagagag
