The BS-Wrestling Pit / Re: What if China has peaked already?

A Dangerous Decade of Chinese Power Is Here

Beijing knows time isn’t on its side and wants to act fast.

U.S. and allied policymakers are facing the most important foreign-policy challenge of the 21st century. China’s power is peaking; so is the political position of Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) domestic strength. In the long term, China’s likely decline after this peak is a good thing. But right now, it creates a decade of danger from a system that increasingly realizes it only has a short time to fulfill some of its most critical, long-held goals.

Within the next five years, China’s leaders are likely to conclude that its deteriorating demographic profile, structural economic problems, and technological estrangement from global innovation centers are eroding its leverage to annex Taiwan and achieve other major strategic objectives. As Xi internalizes these challenges, his foreign policy is likely to become even more accepting of risk, feeding on his nearly decadelong track record of successful revisionist action against the rules-based order. Notable examples include China occupying and militarizing sub-tidal features in the South China Sea, ramping up air and maritime incursions against Japan and Taiwan, pushing border challenges against India, occupying Bhutanese and Tan lands, perpetrating crimes against humanity in Xinjiang, and coercively enveloping Hong Kong.

The relatively low-hanging fruit is plucked, but Beijing is emboldened to grasp the biggest single revisionist prize:

And another thing...

"Confucian moral virtues are geared towards the cultivation of an ‘ideal’ benevolent seniority and complying inferiority, so that both of them can act appropriately according to their right positions in the hierarchical society."

Great clue! Suspicious U.S. seafood received at Huanan Seafood Market before the outbreak

In mid-November 2019, a batch of seafood from Maine, USA was shipped to Wuhan South China Seafood Market through the cold chain. In just a few weeks, employees of many merchants in the South China Seafood Market experienced symptoms of pneumonia of unknown origin one after another, and they were infected with new coronary pneumonia....

How about a purportedly empirical observation?

China used to be very closed, and the people in there were intensely curious about anything new. Then China "opened up". China became pretty easy to get into and start meeting people. Still is, or was, pre-2020. But that curiosity is, well, if not gone, then driven so far underground it's negligible. So, opening up the country and closing up the hearts and minds?

Generally, open systems allow interactions between internal elements and external environment; closed don't.

A fraction more specifically, closed social systems are said to fix individuals in their social position, and presumably, to fit in with the more general definition of open and closed, this occurs not because the system as a whole is closed but because the different social strata are closed.

Closed social systems, imma say, require participants to perform social construction before other types of constructive exchange can occur. Posed like that, sounds like I'm talking China. "Making friends" is required before other types of communication can get off the ground. Projects depend on connection.

But, in China, people can "make friends"? Literally enter the society of others and become connected?

So it's not a closed social system?

I'm back!  Did you miss me?

It was a fun, but VERY busy trip.  I got to see 6 of my students and hundreds of others.

I got back late last night and am now desperately trying to catch up on work.

Having a healthy life style is an excellent tool, but does not negate getting vaccinated.

Prevention and treatment of COVID-19 using Traditional Chinese Medicine: A review

A novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV2) outbreak in more than 200 countries recently caused viral pneumonia that was extremely infectious and pathogenic. The Chinese government proposes that both Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine can be used in combination to treat pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV2, and TCM effectively provides continuous prevention and treatment.

The present review analyzes and summarizes the prevention and treatment of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with TCM. A classified analysis of the efficacy and advantages of TCM for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 was performed, and the mechanisms of TCM in treating COVID-19 are summarized.

TCM is effective in preventing COVID-19, and medical staff can prevent an iatrogenic infection by taking a decoction made based on the principles of TCM. As of March 13, 2020, new cases of COVID-19 in China have decreased in number to single digits. TCM's curative effect was outstanding, with a national participation rate of over 90%. More than 70,000 people were cured of COVID-19 and discharged from the hospital. Only approximately 10,000 patients are currently being treated, and the total treatment time is approximately 2 months.

TCM is currently the best choice for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19, and it is expected that it will be promoted by countries around the world.
