In BC along the coast they found some broken Japanese pots that from around the 14th century.  I remember reading this is a Discovery Magazine. 

We also know that Viking's were in Canada long before Columbus.

Leif the Loopy and Sven Halfwit tried to sail from Jutland to Zealand, took a wrong turn due to not being able to tell left from right (Leif did have a pair of shoes with L and R written on them but sadly, he couldn't read) and ended up in Canada.
