Hi all....... These web sites are a real shot in the arm for me right now as I'm working on changing jobs......mine has gone south....big time! I already had several of them, but the others are a resource I can use.....

Would be a neat " agagagagag"COOL"" thing (but totally unrealistic of me to think this~~)if someone with time on their hands {like, who?? } could/would compile such a list.  That would  be a great help for those both looking for that first job and us changing jobs.....THANKS for the info !!!

Imagine that someone in the past asked the same question.....I'll put this to it's test tonight.  I've not seen any teacher ads for some of the schools, and I've looked at hundreds of ads.....after a while they all look and sound the same.   You Made my Day.......

Bugs, I can't seem to find any link in that site detailing how ranking made. In the 2003 NetBig ranking posted by Beckster there is an explanation of the ranking, how to interpret. They're very similar with schools I know jostling up or down a point or two. If can be authenticated better would be very helpful for Western universities trying to evaluate graduate students.
Any ideas?

Thanks, TP

The rankings are made by the Ed Dep't after evaluation.  University facilities are taken into account, ratio of qualified teachers to students, papers published, research done, accuracy of paperwork, evaluation of individual teachers in class, discussions with the students, students obtaining work - basically all the same stuff we evaluate on back home, plus of course, value of gifts given.  One uni I heard of gave each inspector a super fancy laptop, others have provided never-ending lavish dinners, massages (and all that entails) ....

In short, while the top 20 look consistent with our assumed rankings, take with a grain of salt.  alalalalal
I was hoping that at least the 2008 ranking posted would at least have supporting explainations as did the 2003 ranking. It would make one feel better even if a little suspect suspect. However, they look comparable enough. Just trying to help my faculty with graduate admissions.

I am not sure that a ranking indicates anything about what we as teachers would be concerned with.  Case in point, HIT number 14. They offer one of the lowest salaries in the city.  It was 4300 a month. How is this possible at a school with that rank?  Here is how it goes.  They have had a relationship with some missionary group for over 10 years, so when they can't get anyone to accept that low pay, they just give the missionary group a call and like magic they get as many young fresh faced zealots as necessary.  They, the missionaries also get paid from their missionary group. I was shocked to learn this given the so call ban on "spreading the good news".

I found this pretty useful list today of Chinese universities.

http://www.university-directory.eu/China/China.html

I'm presently looking for work as an ESL teacher in a Chinese university in Shanghai.  Most of the  e-mails that are provided with this list appear to be working.

I tried the list posted on this thread before.

http://www.directoryofeducation.net/colleges_universities/byCountry/China/#W

You are directed to the website of the university you want.  I'm very confused because some of the e-mail addresses I find on the official websites don't work.  Too often, my e-mail bounces back, including the one for Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of the most prestigous universities in the country.

Anyone got a genuine e-mail address for Shanghai Jiao Tong university?

Thanks,

Paul Carr

You could try to navigate around the Chinese version of the website if it isn't too confusing, to find the email address. Open two tabs, and go through link by link to find the related page. They maintain Chinese versions far more than the English one, which has probably remained the same since inception.
Just another roadkill on the information superhighway.

I've often just done a google search for a specific province or city and "Chinese university."  Some of the lists I've run across don't seem to give as many of the options sometimes.  I've found several in Dalian I didn't know about until I did this.
