Soft sleeper is nice, but I think hard sleeper is also OK for long rides - I've done about 30 hours or so a couple of times.  Snacks, beers, MP3, book, chat with random folks or retreat to your bunk, watch the world go by out the window.  Prefer it to flying if I have the time actually.

Not only that Kanga but the bottom beds actually cost slightly more than the middle and top beds so obviously they're not all the same. I never minded trading a bottom bunk for a top one (when I used to travel alone) if the other passenger was an elderly person or someone with a child, but people need to at least ask. Now that I have 2 kids of my own I really appreciate it when someone is willing to switch bunks with me so that our family can be together or so that I don't have to try and sleep with my 3 year old in a 8 foot tall bunk bed, but I never just roll up on someone else's bunk and claim rights.
