An English-Chinese lexicon
« on: May 16, 2014, 05:26:44 PM »
In no particular order, here are a few "English" words and phrases used by the homies, and what they really mean to the homies.
Please add to the list!

crackdown = massacre
strong = fat
interesting = strange
boring = don't understand
xenophobia = love of China
delicious = Chinese food
beautiful [e.g. "Australia is very beautiful"] = I've got no fucking idea. I just say this shit
professor = unqualified teacher
leave (n) = can't be stuffed coming to class, so ask for "leave".
high fever = sneezed once this morning, hence "leave".
broken leg = slight calf strain playing basketball when on "leave".
the development of the economic = my parents are getting richer but my English is still crap.
handsome and attractive = I could possibly do you.
go to shopping = wander aimlessly through the main street. Ain't buying no English grammar book though.
RIP Phil Stephens.
No static at all.

"n" - Choose one or more: Hello, I agree, I don't understand, I don't want to talk about this.
The greatest and most important problems of life are all in a certain sense insoluble. They can never be solved, but only outgrown.

yes: I don't understand the words why, how, what, where, when or who when asked in an academic context. 20 years of school and none of my previous teachers has ever asked these.
