The Malcolm Gladwell book "Blink' talks about the judgments we make unconsciously. He describes some experiments psychologists have run looking at 'priming' ie subconsciously setting up feelings etc in the subject's mind. I thought this was fascinating and am trying it with my students. I am attempting to 'prime' them to be fluent English speakers. IF it works I'm not prepared to make one class the 'control' group, so I'm not able to make a real comparison. I figure if it works, then my students will progress a little faster, if it doesn't work, well, they've had a bit more variety injected into lessons.
Has anyone else tried anything along these lines??
I'd love to figure out if doing it in a second language has the same effect.
