In July last year I came back to New Zealand for an extended break. It was not by choice - I had to have an operation to get various pieces of skin cut out.
I was on the waiting list for a long time (our public health system does not work on demand any longer) but got to survive a 4 hour operation and 2 weeks in hospital because my stomach 'went to sleep' while I was out to it.
My return to China was always going to be problematic. Now that I am over 65yrs the chances of getting a job are remote - most provinces I know are not dishing out FEC's to those over 65.
For all that, I miss China so I have booked to fly back on Friday. I have no plan, except to take advantage of any gap in the system that will let me stay in China for an extended period.
If anybody knows any angle (legal or even in the 'grey zone) I would appreciate it if you can send me a message.

There is the obvious way. Find a pretty girl who doesn't want to move to NZ anytime soon and get married. agagagagag

You can come as a visitor for one year stints (I know you know). That can buy you time to find your paradise

That plan crossed my mind ... but it seemed to rather self-defeating to limit myself to just one girl while in China. agagagagag

Yep - I can buy the time ... but I need money to buy all the other things. For the first time I may have to consider working as a 'black' teacher.

Public schools/institutions might have some issues with your age but private organisations won't.
The application will be scrutinized more than usual of course but if you're being hired as a foreign specialist as opposed to ""teacher", it changes the game quite a bit.

This is where the marriage negotiations get . . . delicate. You need to find a very . . . open-minded girl. afafafafaf

An Australian couple I know are in a similar situation. He was turning 70 so the uni decided not to renew his contract

I am back - sort of! Flew back in on a Visitors Visa and and currently resident in a small room in the downtown area of a small Guangdong city that I regard as my hometown in China.
I do not have a proper job so I have had to adapt to a different way of life. That has its challenges at times but that is one reason why I like living in China - I am never bored!
It is really good to be back wandering around the streets again. I have a feeling that the local constabulary must be looking at their CCTV screens with some concern. agagagagag

Nice one! bfbfbfbfbf
Will you be getting a job then?
-
Everything is 'problematic' at this stage. I have enough part time work to keep me fed and sheltered ... so I am just happy with that while I look for a proper job of some kind.

Come visit DG sometime. There's plenty of room at the Hotel Lunatic. agagagagag

Appreciate your kind offer.
Does your wife have an unmarried cloned sister ??

I've just had a thought xwarrior. Any chance you could become a "male of the night"? There must be a lot of nice ladies who would like an "experience" with a laowi (SP?) without having to go through the "getting to know you" etc rigmarole. Just a quick "Wham bam, thank you Mam!" and leave your money at the door. bfbfbfbfbf agagagagag uuuuuuuuuu :dancemj:

Great advice, Granny Mae. I will make a start on exploring a new career path and keep you informed.
I would appreciate it if anybody in the Saloon can offer advice on this option (job sites, agents, contracts, pay scale, conditions, etc) as up to now my only experience in this industry has been as Party A in the process. ananananan
I imagine a contract would have items such as:
"If Party B renders satisfactory service for ........ minutes then Party A shall make a payment ... of .... RMB."
I welcome any suggestions on contract terms.

My wife does have a couple of younger sisters. Both are married, but it might be possible to steal them away. You would need to take a side trip to Jiangxi to meet them.
As for that business opportunity, keep me in the loop. If the income is high enough, my wife might agree to rent me out from time to time. ahahahahah
